FRIDAY: After a winter-long hiatus, PICÓ PICANTE is back, y estamos ready.
Friday April 22nd, we've got the first Picó guest ever back for another round, with GEKO JONESof Que Bajo?! headlining the basement spot. Geko's DJ sets are known for incorporating heavy Afro-Latin percussion mixed with hard synth lines and global breaks; check the release he recently curated with Fania Records, Latin Soul, remixing a classic album from the late Ralfi Pagan.
This month's party is a benefit for SISTERS UNCHAINED, "a collective of young women of color with loved ones currently or formerly behind bars. [Their] program seeks to create a radical and loving space for affirmation, healing, political education, and the realization of our collective power to build up our communities. The pilot program, founded by Families for Justice as Healing in 2014, is now led by Youth Against Mass Incarceration with support from the South End Technology Center."
We couldn't be more excited to welcome Boston-via-Kingston's RAQ CITY to la cabina for a special (birthday) set, the return of one of our favorites SLICK VICK, super especial guestFREEBASS of Fuete Billete (Puerto Rico), resident RIOBAMBA, and ACCENT ELIMINATION (a.k.a. OXYCONTINENTAL) on visuals.
¡¡Hasta el viernes!!
